The Productivity Show #026 - Jodie Miners’ Tips & Tricks
Jodie Miners caught up with me recently to discuss her approach to productivity and how you have to bypass company policy sometimes in order to be productive. Among other tidbits, Jodie mentions her love for:
- David Seah’s Emergent Task Tracker
- Yubnub
- SlickRun - a free floating command line utility for Windows
She also talked a bit about how she is helping set up a community website for an organisation she is involved in, and the set of free online tools she is using to build their site.
I also mentioned Robert Scoble’s recent post about moving from Outlook to Gmail. If you’re also trying to make the move, or thinking about making the move, it’s worth reading the comment thread to learn some tips and tricks to make it easier.

Yub Nub - Social Command Line for the Web http://www.yubnub.org/
Eg I use it for auspost codes type in “auspc yarraville” and it looks up the postcode on Aus Post website - there are many and varied used for it.

Another fav Yub Nub command and one that I created is tvozsyd - type that in and it brings up the tv listings for prime time today in Sydney. But I can easily create a magic word in SlickRun or an ActiveWord for something as simple as that - Yub Nub’s power is in it’s parameters… check it out, you will find something in the vast array of commands that will be useful for you.

SlickRun looks a lot like http://wincito.sourceforge.net/
Haven’t had the chance to test SlickRun, but I couldn’t live without Wincito anymore. I can’t recall the last time, I used the Start menu…

Hi Jimy, just had a look at Wincito but not that impressed just yet. Wincito can’t user parameters and has an ugly work around for attempting to use them. One way I use parameters all the time is to look up a PostCode (ZipCode). I just type in PCode Yarraville and Slickrun passes the value of the suburb (Yarraville) into the URL of the AusPost website and returns me the results page of the PostCode for the suburb. (See also the YubNub example of the same thing above). In an earlier incarnation of Google Desktop Search the deskbar also did something similar with parameters and custom URL’s but I can’t seem to find it in the current release of Google Desktop.
